The Starlit Rite is easy to overthink, mostly because Path of Exile 2 now ties early Act 1 content to a much wider Return of the Ancients feature set. If you're heading in with fresh gear, spare PoE2 Currency can help smooth out the rough edges, but the actual route is simple enough: follow The Runeseeker questline into the Lost Catacombs. PoE2DB places that area in Act 1 at area level 12, so this isn't an endgame map zone in the normal sense. The confusion comes from the update context. Some guides describe The Starlit Rite as part of a bigger endgame-facing patch, while the playable location itself sits on the early Grelwood path.

Where the Starlit Rite actually sits
The Lost Catacombs is the key area. Its database entry connects it to The Grelwood and also lists The Starlit Rite as a linked destination, which means players should be looking along the Act 1 Grelwood route rather than hunting through random late-game Expedition content. The internal area ID, ExpeditionSubArea_Kalguur_Act1, also hints at the Kalguuran and Expedition flavour behind the zone. In plain player terms, you go into the catacombs, push through the area, and look for the Runic Vault. The sources don't give a fixed layout, so don't waste time trying to follow a left-wall or right-wall rule. Just clear, check side paths, and keep moving until the vault route shows up.

What happens inside the Runic Vault
The Starlit Rite takes place at the end of the Runic Vault, and that's where Farrow becomes important. Game8 describes this as the moment where players summon Farrow and unlock the Verisium Anvil, the crafting station used for Runeforging. The lore text around the rite leans hard into stars, chalices, and failed ritual imagery, so it feels less like a normal Expedition encounter and more like a buried ceremonial chamber. There's no confirmed room-by-room map, no exact interaction-object name, and no clear reward list beyond the Runeforging unlock path. So, when you reach the chamber, interact with what the quest asks for, then pay attention to Farrow rather than rushing out.

Farrow, completion credit, and the annoying icon issue
Two separate problems get mixed up a lot. One is the map icon bug. Game8 reports that The Starlit Rite point-of-interest marker can stay uncrossed even after progress continues, which looks bad but doesn't necessarily block the quest. The other issue is more practical. The Nerd Stash says players can get stuck if they leave after the chamber interaction without speaking to Farrow again. If Farrow is sitting around and nothing moves forward, try returning to town, speaking with him, then making a fresh Lost Catacombs instance and running the objective again. It's not elegant, but it's a better test than staring at an uncrossed icon and assuming everything is broken.

Runeforging and what to farm after the unlock
Once the Verisium Anvil is available, The Starlit Rite shifts from quest step to crafting gateway. Runeforging uses Verisium for basic work and Starlit Ore for more advanced upgrades, though the exact costs and full recipe tables haven't been confirmed in the supplied material. For Starlit Ore, the clearest targeted lead is Expedition Logbooks. Red runic monsters can drop them, and Logbooks above level 79 are tied to access to Olroth, Origin of the Fall. Killing Olroth is described as a guaranteed source of Revered Starlit Ore, while other ore variants are still less clear. If you're preparing for that longer farm, checking your gear, resistances, and PoE2 Currency for sale options before committing to repeated Logbook runs can save a fair bit of frustration.
